The HTC One M8 features a slightly bigger 5 inch SLCD display with 1080p resolution. The HTC One was one of the brightest ppi busting display of its time and the HTC One M8 unfurls the same magnificence to a large 5 inch panel. The software is Android 4.4 Kitkat with HTC Sense 6.0 UI and Blink feed 2.0. The chipset employed is 2.3 GHz Snapdragon 801 processor and if the leaked benchmark scores are true, you are in for a pleasant surprise. The RAM capacity is 2 GB and 2 internal storage variants 16 GB/ 32GB will be available. MicroSD support is also present for up to 128 GB expansion. HTC will also offer 65 GB of Google drive storage bundled with the device. The camera is the same Ultra pixel 4MP camera with dual LED true tone flash. The pixel size for 1/3” sensor is quite large at 2 micrometer. We weren’t blown away with HTC One 2013 camera but this time HTC Claims several improvements. The second camera present at the back is a depth sensor which enables you to click images and Re-focus them later. The camera can record 1080p videos at 30 fps and 720p videos at 60fps. The front 5 MP selfie camera can also shoot 1080p full HD video. HTC has also several new options in the camera software apart from Refocus. You can also copy a person or object from one images and paste it in the next one. In our initial time with the device, the camera seems slightly better than the 2013 variant. HTC One M8 also incorporates some fitness features similar to all other flagships from tier 1 manufacturers. The phone is integrated with fitbit app for fitness tracking and comes with built in always on power saving activity tracking sensor. Your scores will be displayed in a blink feed widget and you can also compete with friends.
The battery capacity is 2600 mAh and HTC claims upto 14 hours of talk time and 271 hours of standby time. HTC Claims that the battery will last 40 percent longer than the 2013 HTC One. The Indian variant will feature 4G LTE, WiFi ac, USB OTG and NFC connectivity apart from other standard set of connectivity features.
Similar to Samsung Galaxy S5, HTC will also provide with an extreme battery saving mode which can make 10 percent battery last for 30 hours. The quick charging feature will charge 80 percent of the battery in one hour. The new HTC offering seems spectacular both in terms of hardware and build quality. Let’s see if HTC can price this right in Indian market. The phone will arrive in India in third week of April and will be available in gunmetal gray and glacial silver color. If you drop your phone and crack the display, HTC will replace it for free in the first six month, but since it is protected by Gorilla glass 3, its not very likely to break when it drops.
