Lava Magnum X604 Unboxing, Full Review, Camera, Gaming, Benchmarks, Features and Overview[Video]

Design, Display and Build

Lava Magnum X604 is huge at 6 inches in size with substantial vertical bezels, but thanks to gently curved rear back (around the edges), it’s comfortable to hold in hand. The leather flipcover is good in quality and Lava has also bundled a scratch guard in the box for display protection. Considering the large footprint, it is slim enough but feels slightly heavy in hand. Power button is easily accessible on the right edge and headphone jack is present on the top.

The 5 point multi-touch display attracts lots of finger print grease but perhaps that will change after you apply the scratch guard. Display resolution is 1280 x 720 HD. The IPS LCD display has good viewing angles and sharpness but it is not very crisp display and understandably so. The backlit capacitive buttons didn’t glow smoothly in our review unit. Auto brightness is supported

Processor and RAM

The processor used is 1.2 GHz quad core Broadcom chipset with VideoCore IV GPU and 1 GB RAM (more than 500 MB free). The chipset is the major negative factor in this device. UI lags were noticeable right from the start and this is expected to worsen in the long run. Antutu score is 14557 and nenamark score is 30.7 fps.

If you are interested in basic usage like watching some Youtube videos, basic social networking apps, basic games like temple run, etc, you wouldn’t be irked much. This device is not meant for high end or moderate gaming or other demanding tasks.

Camera and Internal Storage

The rear 8 MP camera gives decent details and colors in good lighting but the performance suffers in low light conditions. The camera is an average performer like most other 8 MP units we have seen in this price range.

Internal storage is 8 GB out of which arround 850 MB is available for apps. Apps can be transferred to SD card as well. USB OTG is also supported and this allows you to store media files on a flash drive.

User Interface and Battery

The phone runs on Android 4.4.2 kitkat, and the UI is mostly stock android. It comes with some standard set of preloaded apps but nothing much.

The battery capacity is 2800 mAh and the battery backup is good. You can get more than 5 hours of onscreen time. With moderate usage, you can comfortably last one day. We did see some unexpected battery drain with 3G on, but on WiFi the battery backup was good.

Sound, Video Playback and Connectivity

The headphones that come in the box are not of very good quality. The loudspeaker was not too loud and the mesh is present on the rear side as well, which muffles the sound when the phone is resting on its back. You can play HD and full HD videos, but there was some lag while jumping the navigation bar when we were testing full HD videos. GPS locking takes slightly more time.

Conclusion and Price

Lava Magnum X604 is a well built device with decent display and good battery backup- an important parameter in 6 inch devices, but unfortunately, there is some noticeable lag in all aspects which leaves a bad taste. The device is meant for first time android users new to the ecosystem with basic usage requirements. The handset is available for 11,199 INR, a price where several big guns like Moto G and Zenfone 5 are retailing and which you can consider if you are willing to settle for a smaller screen size.
