Design, Build and Display

Leon follows the same design ethos, yet some subtle changes make explicit that this is a low cost device. LG Rear Key and brushed metal finish, descending all the way from LG G3 have made the cut for Leon as well. Though LG Magna and Spirit aren’t slim phones by any scale, but Leon appears noticeably thicker.

LG Leon has a 4.5 Inch display with FWVGA 854 X 480 pixel resolution. The display isn’t as sharp as Magna or Spirit, and bezels are also beefier on all sides. Touch is very responsive, but on the whole display quality is average.

Processor and RAM

Leon comes with 1.3 GHz quad core processor, though LG hasn’t divulged exact details of the chipset yet. It might be placebo effect, but in our time with the device, performance seemed one notch below Magna and Spirit. LG will be launching 1 GB RAM variant in India, which is a good thing.

Camera and Internal Storage

The rear camera has a 5 MP sensor aided by basic LED flash and a basic VGA camera on the front side. Camera performance seemed average in our initial testing.

Internal storage is standard 8 GB out of which 3 GB is available on first boot. Storage can be further expanded by another 32 GB using MicroSD card.

User Interface and Battery

User interface is Android 5.0 Lollipop, with LG Custom UI on top. This is good enough to keep you future proof and to deliver great Android experience. The software is similar to what we saw and liked on other two devices showcased today. The 4th navigation key visible in Images is to swap between two SIM cards.

Battery capacity is 1900 mAh. It is too soon to comment on the battery backup as we have spent only preliminary hands on time with the device. LG hasn’t revealed official stats for maximum standby time and talk time either.

Conclusion

LG Leon is another regular budget Android phone which is expected to be available for around 8,000 INR in India. With several smartphones from reputed brands offering better hardware for the same or lower price, LG Leon will face tough competition. It is primarily distinguished by some similarities it shares with high end LG devices, and it’s for you to decide it that will suffice or not.
