LG X Screen Physical Overview

LG X screen is a totally fresh handset in LG’s line up. It does not share its design language with any of the earlier released LG smartphones. It has a glass fibre built with plastics surrounding it from the sides. The front and back has glass which makes it prone of fingerprints and turn out to be quite fragile. It looks premium from both the sides and feels very light at just 120 grams. Sides are made of plastic with rounded edges, it is given a metallic finish to make it feel more premium but it was not necessary as such.

The phone feels very handy and can be easily used with one hand. It is thin, lightweight but a bit slippery. Taking a look around the phone, you’ll find the proximity sensor, earpiece on top. Accompanied with front camera, there is the second screen that comes with the always-on feature and offers some shortcuts.

There is no physical navigation button at the bottom, there is just the LG logo on the lower bezel.

The volume rocker is on the left hand side of the phone.

On the right, there is a SIM tray on the top and the lock/power key just below it.

On the top edge, you’ll find the secondary microphone. USB port, 3.5mm jack, primary mic and speaker grill is placed at the bottom edge.

Camera module is placed with LED light at the center top of the back.

Display

LG X Screen has a 5.0 inches IPS LCD display with a screen resolution of 720p. The display comes with a pixel density of 294 ppi and color depth of 16M colors. The display on this device is definitely good in terms of color reproduction, sharpness and brightness but the viewing angles are not as impressive as they should have been.

Camera Overview

It comes with an 13 MP primary shooter with f/2.2 aperture and LED flash. It can record video up to [email protected] The front camera is 8 MP. Both the cameras perform well in natural light and good lighting conditions but in some cases pictures looked over saturated. Autofocus was quick but you’ll need to keep your hand perfectly still to get a clear and sharp shot. At this price point, we have seen better performing cameras and specially the front camera. For better knowledge, you can have a look at the camera samples below.

Gaming Performance

Knowing that this handset is from LG, I intentionally installed the graphic intense Asphalt 8 on the LG X Screen. Looking at the hardware I expected something sluggish and annoying in the gameplay, but the results were total surprise. The Snapdragon 410 and Adreno 306 performed exceptionally with the 2 GB of RAM. The game was easily playable at medium graphic settings and I did not face any lag during my initial tests. You’ll just need to make sure that there aren’t too many apps running in the background. This phone can easily take on graphic intense games until and unless you haven’t overloaded the CPU with multiple apps. I tried running the game with just 5% battery left in the phone and it was able to pull off for just 9 minutes which proves that the battery optimization is not the best we have seen so far.

Conclusion

LG X Screen is a good device in terms of looks and quality. The new always-on secondary display is a useful addition but the display and camera of the phone are not up to the mark. I really liked the feel of the phone in hand but is it really powerful enough to be priced at INR 12,990? That is what depends on your choice.
