Microsoft has shifted focus to low end market and is betting on first time users and budget conscious buyers to adopt Windows ecosystem and increase its market share. The two new budget handsets launched today will succeed Lumia 630 and 635 launched last year.

The Lumia 640

Lumia 640 includes a 5 Inch HD IPS LCD display, with company’s proprietary ClearBlack technology and Gorilla Glass 3 protection on top. Chipset includes 1.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with Adreno 305 GPU, 1GB RAM and 8GB expandable internal memory, which is enough horse power to drive Windows 8.1 OS. The dual SIM smartphone offers an 8 MP rear AF camera along with a 1 MP front camera for sulfides. Other features include 2500 mAh battery, 4G LTE / 3G, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and AGPS.

The Lumia 640 XL

As you would have guessed, this one has a larger display with slightly bigger battery to assist it, along with better camera prowess. The Lumia 640 XL scales the display to 5.7 Inches, leaving the display resolution and chipset untouched.

There is a 13 MP rear camera along with a 5 MP front snapper for more detailed photography. Other features include 3000 mAh battery 4G LTE / 3G, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and aGPS Both of these smartphones will sport traditional bright color Lumia design and run Windows Phone 8.1 with Denim update pre installed. Microsoft also assured that these are Windows 10 ready. Microsoft Lumia 640 XL 3G is priced at 189 Euros and Microsoft Lumia 640 3G is priced at 139 Euros
