Notably, OnePlus held a contest called “OnePlus ROM: You Name It” back in December on its official forum. The contest was aimed at providing its fans to decide the name of its ROM. The winners of the same were announced on January 11 and they were rewarded with OnePlus Power Banks and One smartphone as well.

This announcement comes after Cyanogen Inc signed a deal with Micromax providing exclusive software rights to the Indian manufacturer. Thereby, Micromax is the only firm that can sell Cyanogen OS based smartphones in India. As this triggered infringement of exclusivity against OnePlus, the software firm announced that the Indian variant of One smartphone will not receive any updates from Cyanogen. Also, OnePlus claimed that it will be launching a new ROM for the smartphone in India by February. Earlier this month, OnePlus came up with an early alpha build of the new ROM and it was not named then. The new OxygenOS is based on Android 5.0 Lollipop and it resembles stock Android providing an almost similar user experience. At the announcement of the OxygenOS, Bradon Harwood, Marketing Specialist at OnePlus said, “We’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what this ROM means to us and our fans. We realized that, like everything we do, our true goal is to make the product that we ourselves would want to use—to make great technology more accessible for everyone. When we designed the One, we went back to the drawing board, creating a smartphone that offers a bold, powerful, straight-forward experience. And, that’s exactly what we plan to do with our ROM.”
