Not many people in a country like India will be willing to spend as much as 30,000 INR and above on a company they haven’t heard of before. Although, there are some adventurous minds, yours truly for example, who don’t mind spending on OPPO because they know the device comes with a top-of-the line build quality and material used for the finish are indeed top notch. Here’s our take on the OPPO Find 5.
Display Type And SIze
The OPPO Find 5 comes with a 5 inch, Full HD display, which according to most reviewers on the internet is the best display on a mobile phone till date. Well, that is some feat achieved by this brand, yes? A full HD resolution means that the pixel density will be 441ppi; a treat for the eyes. This PPI puts even retina displays to shame.
As far as protection is concerned, the phone’s display comes protected from scratches thanks to the Gorilla Glass II which is used to coat the glass. But, the glass is not curved like you see in the Samsung Galaxy S3 for example. Another interesting feature on the OPPO’s display is the ‘stealth’ mode; when the display is off, the panel turns into a seamless black slab of glass. It is not possible to quite realize where the bezel and screen meet, and it gives the phone a very unique look and feel.
Processor, Battery And RAM
This is one department where basically no other phone in the price range comes close to the OPPO Find 5. The phone comes with a Qualcomm APQ8064 Snapdragon chipset, which is a quad core 1.5 GHz Krait CPU paired with the utterlt powerful Adreno 320 GPU. This altogether makes a very powerful combination, and easily drives the 1080p display in UI and intense gaming. Although the Nexus 4 comes with the same processor, it doesn’t quite have the build quality and the 1080p screen to match the OPPO. The OPPO Find 5 comes with a 2500mAh battery, which again, is best in the segment. Since the Find 5 is OPPO’s first international phone, the software is not perfect and you don’t quite get the battery backup you would expect of a 2500mAh unit. This however is being improved upon by regular software upgrades, and OPPO delivers an OTA update once every two weeks! The icing on the cake is the RAM; you get 2 whole gigabytes of RAM. The HTC One, Samsung Galaxy S4 offer such specs but cost quite a bit more.
Camera And Internal Storage
OPPO again gives us a reason to buy the Find 5 and not any other competition; the Find 5 comes with a 13 megapixel Sony Exmor sensor. In terms of numbers one can’t get better at this moment in the market, but again, OPPO being a relatively new player in the smartphone game, the software isn’t quite as well optimized as one would expect, but with time we’re sure this will be one of the best mobile phone cameras. It’s been reported that the software on the Find 5 does poor post-processing on camera shots, not often meeting the expectations of shutterbugs. Although, there has been quite an improvement on the camera with firmware upgrades, we hope to see more in the coming months which would fully utilize the device’s potential.
Key Specifiactions
Conclusion, Price & Availability
As you would’ve inferred by now, the OPPO Find 5 is a device with enormous amounts of potential, which is slowly but surely being turned into real-life performance by regular OTA updates from OPPO. The OPPO team is committed to an update every 2 weeks, which is one of the reasons why we love this phone. OPPO also have a policy where users can report bugs and request new features they want in the next update, and if the bug/feature gets enough ‘likes’, the OPPO team include the feature in the coming update. More information on this can be found on the OPPO Forums.
The Find 5 comes in 16GB and 32GB variants in white, and a new ‘midnight black’ edition was later introduced which only comes in the 32GB variant. As far as price and availability is concerned, the phone is not yet officially available in India, but we do expect this to happen sooner or later since interest has been developing gradually about the OPPO in India. If/When OPPO does launch this device in India, we would love to see a 25,000 INR price tag, it is more pleasing to the eye and on the pocket of the beholder.
