Camera and Internal Storage

The Xperia T2 Ultra has been given a pretty good camera unit. It gets a 13MP rear camera with Exmor R Sensor and a LED flash whereas the front camera unit is a 1.1MP one. The primary camera with a slew of features such as 16x digital zoom, sweep panorama, white balance adjustment and is capable f 1080p video recording as well. The internal storage of the smartphone stands at 8 GB which is a not-so-good feature as smartphones in this segment usually feature 16 GB of internal storage. The internal storage can be further expanded by another 32 GB with the help of a micro SD card.

 Processor and Battery

The Xperia T2 Ultra gets a quad core 1.4 GHz Snapdragon 400 SoC which is pretty much the same unit as the Moto G and Xolo Q1100 albeit at a higher clock speed. The processor might just let you down if you are expecting top notch levels of performance. Giving the Xperia T2 Ultra the juice is a 3000 mAh battery which has been rated to give you 10 hours of video playback, 43 days of standby time and 24 hours of talk time on 3G which we think is pretty impressive.

Display and Features

The 6 inch TRILIMUNIOS display of the Xperia T2 Ultra has a resolution of 720p and that is pretty much what you get in phablets a notch below the flaghips. It also features Bravia Engine 2 for mobile, but considering our past experience with Sony Displays, it’s hard to discern if that will have a positive impact over conventional IPS LCD display. It runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and would probably get an Android 4.4 upgrade as well in near future. The Xperia T2 Ultra gets a 1 GB RAM which we think is not really sufficient enough and should have been 2 GB instead.

Looks and Connectivity

The smartphone has a pretty good build quality but the rear of the smartphone might attract a lot of fingerprints. The Xperia T2 Ultra weighs about 172 grams and that is pretty good for such a mammoth device. Sony has taken care to give the Xperia T2 Ultra a very well rounded off connectivity package. It is the single SIM variant that we are getting and it comes shod with 3G, Wi-Fi,  Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP and NFC. So we have absolutely no complaints in this regard.

Comparison

The Xperia T2 Ultra will be going up against other 6 inch phablets in the country which include Nokia Lumia 1320, HP Slate 6 and Intex Aqua Octa.  However all of them feature way lower price tags and that might just be an issue for the Sony offering.

Key Specs

Conclusion

Sony has done a good job of making the Xperia T2 Ultra a perfect budget phablet but seems to have priced it a bit ambitiously and that might just hinder the initial sales of the phablet till it gets a price cut. If its price drops to somewhere around Rs 25,000-27,000, there’s no stopping it from taking on the competition.
