Camera and Internal Storage

Likewise its competitors, the Stellar 520 comes with an 8 MP shooter at its rear and it is believed to be a decent one. This snapper is paired with auto focus and LED flash that can render better low light photography. Also, there is a 2 MP front camera for clicking self portrait shots and for video conferencing. Internal storage onboard the Spice phone is the same 4 GB which will leave a very small quantity for storing the default software and installed applications. However, there is micro SD support that can house additional storage up to 32 GB.

Processor and Battery

Spice Stellar 520 comes with 1.3 GHz quad-core processor that is coupled with a 1 GB of RAM that provide better mutli-tasking. You can find many smartphones in the budget smartphone arena with this hardware combination, but this phone carries a tempting price tag. Battery capacity is 2,000 mAh, which sounds standard in this price range and it is claimed to pump in a moderate backup of 4 hours of talk time and 200 hours of standby time. There are many smartphones that arrive with similar battery specifications in the sub Rs 10,000 price bracket making the Spice phone on par with its competitors.

Display and Other Features

The display is 5 inches in size and it flaunts HD 1280×720 pixel resolution. It is an IPS OGS full lamination panel with good viewing angles and accurate color reproduction. Furthermore, incorporating the OGS technology, the handset will boast of a relatively thinner build. But, you will not get the Corning Gorilla Glass protection that is seen in phones with even lesser price tags. The Spice Stellar 520 is fueled by Android 4.4 KitKat and it arrives with pre-loaded applications such as Spice Cloud, Whatsapp, Opera and OLX. In addition, Spice is providing a free flip cover worth Rs 500 with the purchase of the handset.

Comparison

The Spice Stellar 520 will definitely enter a direct rivalry with smartphones such as Moto G, Xiaomi Redmi 1S and Xolo Q1011.

Price and Conclusion

As of now, the Android phone users are crowded with a plethora of solid offerings from global vendors such as Motorola and Asus and a slew of local players like Micromax. With Spice having launched a Rs 8,999 priced quad-core KitKat based smartphone, the vendor enters a tough fight with the offerings from the aforementioned players. The 5 Inch HD display places it in the sparse segment of recent budget quad core kitkat phones, but this isn’t unique either. This phone will have a tough time distinguishing itself from the crowd.
