Considering the Chromebooks run on the Chrome OS which supports a lot of Android features, this is a feature that many users were expecting quite some time ago. However, as the Chromebook has begun to get better over the past few years, this feature is finally here. Android 8.1 will allow the users to access their SMS messages and send messages using their PC. This Android 8.1 feature kind of reminds us of the feature that Apple supports between the Macbooks and the iPhones. This has also been done with Windows Phone and Windows 8 devices in the past. Android and Google are finally joining the bandwagon with the Chromebook devices. This feature was spotted in screenshots where the service has been named ‘SMS Connect’. SMS Connect, according to reports, will function via the Google Chrome browser of the Chromebook. This feature will appear on the Chromebook settings under ‘Connected Devices’ – a new section that has been created for SMS Connect. As of now it is still unknown if the SMS Connect feature will be exclusive to Pixel smartphones or come to all Android devices in general. In order for this feature to be set up and activated, an SMS Connect app will have to be downloaded and installed on both, the Chromebook as well as the phone. Stay tuned with us for more updates on the feature! Sometimes Google surprises us by introducing some features a little too late! We’re glad that this is finally coming! Source: 9to5Google
